Hello, I’m Dr. Dominika Andrys, the founder of Beauty Brand Formula Ltd., where science meets creativity to bring innovative and effective beauty products to life. My journey in the cosmetic industry is driven by a deep-rooted passion for natural ingredients (and not only!), scientific exploration, and a commitment to excellence in every formulation I create.
My Credentials
My academic journey began with a master’s degree in Biotechnology, followed by a PhD in Plant Biotechnology, where I immersed myself in the study of plants and their incredible potential in cosmetics. My research focused on essential oils and secondary metabolites, exploring how stressful environments could enhance their production. This work, which led to over thirty published articles and three patents, has given me a profound understanding of how natural ingredients can be harnessed to create safe, effective, and innovative cosmetic products.
One of the most exciting findings from my research was the discovery that lavender oil, when used in minute concentrations, not only preserves products naturally but also stimulates the production of procollagen-I, a protein that helps keep skin looking youthful. This revelation opened up new possibilities for the use of biologically active plant substances in the ever-growing natural cosmetics market.
My Professional Journey
One of my proudest achievements was working as a New Product Development Manager for one of the largest contract manufacturers in New Zealand. In this role, I led the development of award-winning products, balancing the demands of a fast-paced industry with a commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation. The experience taught me the importance of teamwork, leadership, and adaptability in overcoming the challenges of product development.

My Passion for Cosmetics
Cosmetics have always been more than just a profession for me; they are a true passion. From the intricacies of formulating skincare to the vibrant world of color cosmetics, I find joy in every aspect of the process. My early experience as a Consultant and Makeup Artist for leading brands like L’Oréal ignited my love for color chemistry and beauty. This passion has remained a driving force throughout my career, inspiring me to continue exploring new trends, technologies, and ingredients.
Color cosmetics, in particular, hold a special place in my heart. There’s something magical about the way colors can transform not just appearances but also emotions and confidence. My journey with color cosmetics has been an exciting blend of art and science, where creativity meets precision to create products that resonate with consumers on a deeper level.
Industry Affiliations
I am an active member of Cosmetic New Zealand and the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NZSCC), where I also serve on the committee. These affiliations allow me to stay at the forefront of industry developments, collaborate with fellow professionals, and contribute to the advancement of cosmetic science in New Zealand.
Mentoring the Next Generation of Cosmetic Industry Professionals
Every year, I strive to help aspiring students and emerging professionals in the beauty industry. I had the opportunity to assist a student from the University of Canterbury with her project on developing a range of products. Additionally, I worked with teenagers from Central Hawke’s Bay College to create a powder sunscreen as part of the Young Enterprise initiative, under the brand name Retouch & Co.
